These times have been hard, and any joy that comes along has felt like a miracle — and now, the tide is rising. A rising tide lifts all boats, so it is said. I truly feel this rising of the tide. People’s hearts are lifting, and we are daring to believe, once again, in hope and joy.  We all know when joy comes among us, and so it has come like a small bird singing every day in the same place, on the same branch, singing a perfectly beautiful song. If you are lucky enough to be there, you will hear her sing. If you’re not, trust that she sings anyway. I feel like that small bird, writing songs, climbing out on my branch, and singing them anyway for all that I’m worth.

After my last album Harbor Street, written during the dark days of the pandemic, I set myself a bright task: write one new song a month to present during my livestream shows that we have been doing for quite a while now. Before I knew it, I had written enough new songs for an album. And so, once again, I turn to you, my family of supporters, to help me finish my recording project and get it out into the world. 

This album, entitled Ravens and the Roses, promises to be a beauty. I am guided in this beauty by my good friend and co-producer Julie Wolf, the amazing Vicki Randle, the brilliant James Deprato, stunning bassist Daniel Fabricant and steady-on-the-drums Scott Amendola. Dave Luke is at the helm as lead engineer. Barbara Higbie and others will join us for some exquisite finishing touches.

We all know that making art - whatever form it may take - is one of the best things humans can do. As I’ve said, beauty can counter-balance the hate and fear, the sadness that plagues the world today. And today, I can feel the rising of the tide, I can feel the rising of the light, helping us all to shine where we are so that we can all make a difference.
