Judy and I had a wonderful trip to Vancouver, which, if you have not visited there, should be on your to-do list. I had such a good show there, and I dearly love the subtle differences I find in Canadian audiences. The new songs from Real Deal are being received so well which is very, very encouraging! .
It's raining today and still it will only delay the drought which is sure to appear this summer. Strange but predictable shifts in the weather patterns indicate that global warming is occurring, and we will really need to address ourselves in the not-too-distant future to water issues. The next wars will be the Water Wars... believe it!
Meanwhile, the bloody war in Iraq drones on and on with no clear exit plans in view. Everyone supports the troops...that is not the issue, nor ever has been. Because we do support them, we want them home, and the war against a country which never attacked us ended. We shouldn't be surprised by anything this administration does, but personally, I would love to be surprised by any real effort made to comprehend that wilderness is worth everything, that wolves and wild horses and migrating birds belong here more than we and, in fact, live in a much more balanced way upon this earth. Those people whose salaries we pay ought to listen more carefully to everyone, not just those with whom they agree. This is true for all of us. True diversity, it seems to me, indicates a wider embrace, inclusive of all. It's a tough challenge, but necessary for true dialogue. It's not enough to lay blame, to perpetuate the bitterness; that kind of "sameness" is too self-serving on both sides and creates more problems, less solutions. Still, in these times, reliable "rightness" or goodness, emanates from our guts,, the skin we live in, and our beating, broken hearts. It's hard to make a stand on shaky, shaky ground. But still we search for our place in the maelstrom. Let's come on down to the water hole, look around at all the creatures great and small, and strive for some kind of agreement, not necessarily assimilation - an irresistible force, to be sure - but a kind of collective self-recognition, actualized true democracy...a team of recognized individuals.
Speaking of teams, soloists within an orchestrated event, I've been loving watching the college women play that basketball! Yow! They are so good and fast and deep-hearted in their play, and truly a joy to watch! Thanks to all those who worked so hard for Title IX...now, little girls can dream large, beautiful dreams.
Thanks to all of you for continuing to make my beautiful dreams come true. I love you all.
