Real Deal
Howdy folks! Greetings from Seattle where I am between recording sessions on my new CD tentatively titled, Real Deal. Teresa Trull is my producer, and again, as always, I marvel at her expertise. Not only can she sing and ride any horse anywhere...
she is also a brilliant producer, always figuring out just the right thing for the sake of the tune. For the sake of these new tunes, we are taking a spare, bare bones approach...Teresa has surrounded my voice with tone specialists, amazing musicians who grace these songs with such beauty, such power. We hope to release this one in January/February, but we think we'll provide a pre-Holiday release in December...so watch for news. I can't wait for you all to hear it...in fact, I can't wait to hear it myself!
Speaking of Holidays, they are just around the corner. If you don't already have Snow Angel, my Holiday CD, you can order it from me, or get it at my upcoming shows. Teresa Trull, Barbara Higbie and I will be doing four special Holiday shows in Northern California. Beginning on December 8, we'll play Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, then travel to Half Moon Bay to play Bach Dynamite and Dancing Society on the 10th, followed by the Palms Playhouse in Winters, and finishing up in Santa Cruz at the Kuumbwa. All of these venues are great, and I can promise that the music will be, too!
Next month is the election, and again, we cannot complain and not vote...so, get out and vote for the candidate of your choice. Judy and I went to see one of the Vote for a Change shows with Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, and Keb' Mo'...so many of us longing for that change, so many hoping for better things. These artists provided great songs, great music, and a true generosity of Spirit. With her usual grace and style, Bonnie asked me to sing on Angel From Montgomery. So, so nice for me...and so nice to receive an extremely honorable mention in the Seattle Times: ("Perhaps the evening's loveliest moment came when Raitt brought out old friend Cris Williamson to sing John Prine's wistful 'Angel From Montgomery,' in soaring harmony reflecting sweet loss and heartache." – Anne Hurley, Special to the Seattle Times)
After the Election, Judy and I are going on the Ms. Post-Election Cruise to the Caribbean. I've been invited to join Eleanor Smeal, Elaine Lafferty, the Editors of Ms. Magazine, Kim Gandy, Carol Moseley-Braun, Dolores Huerta, Kathy Najimy, Dr. Martha Burk as well as additional speakers on this cruise. This should be great!
Well...the leaves are beginning to turn, it's getting darker every morning when I arise, and soon, I'll head out to the East Coast for a month's run of gigs: During Women's Week, I'll play every night at the Post Office Cabaret in Provincetown, MA, beginning on October 9, and running through October 17 (times posted on the schedule), then to Boston to play Passim's, north to Lowell to play a place called Capo's, up to Burlington VT, then to Dummerston, VT, and back to Pawling, NY, and ending up in Saratoga Springs, NY at Café Lena's. Please remember that live music is always better with people in the chairs, filling up the dark in the most precious of musical exchanges. So please come!!! I would love to see each and every one of you. It will help to keep all of us alive – you, me, and the clubs, themselves.
Thank you for being there for me, thank you for loving the music. See you soon!
